I was on a trip from FL to CA and when we almost arrived to southern CA we passed this weird place that had lots of very large circles and squares you could see while flying overhead. It looked somewhat like a checkerboard. Can anyone explain where this is and how it got that shape? Also is there some kind of purpose for it?
